Tanjay Phones with USB Connection

*** Updated info here, the issue is now resolved: http://ocsguy.com/2009/07/28/update-on-the-extra-ring-on-tanjays/***

For everyone out there with the Tanjay style IP phones (Nortel IP 8540 or Polycom CX700), this minor issue will have your users going crazy.  If you provided your users with a USB cable to connect their Tanjay and their computer, they will almost certainly notice this.

When a new call comes in and the user picks up their Tanjay, they will hear 1 additional ring in from the phone.   It’s very distracting to the user and will likely catch them off guard, starting the call on an odd note.  I’ve submitted this issue to a few of my Microsoft contacts and am awaiting response.

*** Please note I haven’t tested the new version of UCUpdates.exe (6907.31) but will likely deploy to our test group at some point tomorrow.  You can find the latest version of the UCUpdates here.  I’ll post an update once we get to test the latest version***

    Hi Kevin,

Any update on this issue? We’re seeing the same thing at our office and it’s driving the users nuts. I think I’m just going to have them unplug the USB for the time being. Too bad because the pairing via USB is very cool.

    Hey Joel,

Thanks for posting, unfortunately I haven’t received an update from Microsoft on this yet. However, I have seen it mentioned on the TAP forums and they are aware of the problem. If you don’t mind me asking, what type of devices are you seeing the issue with? I’d like to update on the internal forums on your behalf if you’re seeing it somewhere we haven’t.

Have a great day and thanks again for posting!
